this documentry tells the compelling story of Galveston, Texas, in the aftermath of the 2008 hurricane. Through the personal accounts of local residents Leon, Jonathan, and Jada, the documentary explores the emotional and physical devastation that struck the island, the years of rebuilding, and the unwavering resilience of the community. The film touches on themes of vulnerability, the impact of natural disasters, and the strength of human spirit in the face of adversity. As part of my second-year project(Story 2) at Ravensbourne University, I took on the challenge of editing raw footage to create a six-minute story that captures the essence of Galveston’s journey. My task was to distill hours of footage into a concise, impactful narrative, focusing on the emotional depth of the residents' stories. I worked to highlight the central themes of loss, recovery, and community resilience, ensuring that the powerful voices of Leon, Jonathan, and Jada remained at the heart of the documentary. One of the key techniques I used in the editing process was the creation of montages. These montages served to illustrate the drastic transformation of Galveston, juxtaposing serene shots of island life before the hurricane with the shocking devastation caused by the storm. The montages not only helped break the story into manageable, emotional beats but also highlighted the contrast between the peaceful, vibrant community and the chaos that followed. This allowed the audience to fully grasp the impact of the storm and the resilience of the town in rebuilding. The music played a pivotal role in setting the tone of the documentary. I carefully selected tracks to complement the emotional shifts throughout the film. “Island” by Extenz creates a serene, tranquil atmosphere, capturing the calm before the storm. As the hurricane’s chaos unfolds, “Chapter 9” by Sir Mist underscores the destruction and the emotional intensity of the event. Finally, “Memory Lane” by Kevin MacLeod provides a reflective backdrop, symbolizing the personal losses experienced by the community and the emotional journey of rebuilding and recovery. Hurricane Ike – Galveston’s Resilience is more than just a documentary about a natural disaster—it’s a testament to the strength and unity of a community in the face of overwhelming odds. Through careful editing, the use of montages, and a thoughtfully chosen soundtrack, I’ve aimed to tell a story of loss, resilience, and hope that transcends the immediate devastation of the hurricane. The powerful stories of Leon, Jonathan, and Jada remind us that even in the most challenging times, the human spirit can endure and rebuild.

🎬 Anesthesia – My First Long-Form Edit For my first long-form edit, I worked with Anesthesia, a darkly comedic horror short sourced from EditStock. This project allowed me to experiment with pacing, sound design, and visual effects to craft an atmosphere that blends tension with humor. Set in a 1950s dentist’s office, the film follows Mary, a housewife who uncovers her dentist’s eerie secret. Through jump cuts, Foley sound, and VFX (including a black-and-white sequence), I built suspense while maintaining comedic moments. The feedback I received helped refine the pacing and timing, ensuring the humor didn’t undercut the film’s tension. This project was a crucial learning experience, pushing me to grow creatively while experimenting with different genre-blending techniques.
